Advent Devotional 12/17: More than Enough

“So all the skilled workers who were doing all the work on the sanctuary left what they were doing and said to Moses, “The people are bringing more than enough for doing the work the LORD commanded to be done.”” (Exodus 36:4–5, NIV)

Every work of faith comes with risk and uncertainty. God gives you a vision. Calls you to play a part in fulfilling it. Gives you hope and enthusiasm for it. Rallies people to it. But you don’t always start the work having everything you need. Often, you start and believe God has already made provision for what you will need.

This is my attitude with the 8 Step Plan and the 200 in 2020 Vision. I am convinced that God is calling us to this work. It is a good work and worth doing. It will be for his glory, for the benefit of the people we will reach, and will be a growth experience for those of us who will take part.

When God told Moses and the Israelites to build a Tabernacle for his presence, they obeyed and got started. It was going to be a beautiful and expensive tabernacle. It would be built of fine linen, costly yarn, precious acacia wood, bronze, silver and gold. And the Israelites would provide the material.

The amazing thing is that the people brought too much! The Scripture says that “The people are bringing more than enough for doing the work the LORD commanded to be done.” It would be an unusual building campaign where we have to tell people to stop giving!

The work that God has given Kardia in 2020 will take resources. It will take people, time and finances. We are building a beautiful and precious church community for God to inhabit. We want to beautify the campus in a manner that expresses the beauty of God and his people. I believe God has already provided everything we need to do what he wants us to do in 2020. I believe that we already have more than enough. It is a matter of the heart, whether we will be willing to give it. I am confident of our church, that we have a generous and willing people.

It is my hope and prayer that in 2020, God would bless the people of Kardia. May we overflow with every kind of resource and provision. And as God blesses us, may he move our hearts to give back to his work, and may it be more than enough.

God our provider, you provide everything good in our lives generously for our enjoyment. You give more than enough, so that we can be generous to you and to others.

We realize that your work requires our involvement, and that our involvement will require sacrifice. The vision you have given us will not happen by magic. You have given us skill to work, and resources to give.

We ask that you would teach us how to steward the resources under our care. Give us willing hearts. Help us to see the value of investing in your Kingdom. Teach us to live simply so that we can be generous. Bless our careers, our businesses, and our ventures so that they are fruitful.

For each stage in our work, we pray that we would have more than enough resources. Especially for the work of renovation, we ask that you would move our hearts to contribute the necessary finances.

Above all, give us faith. Give us faith to see the end from the beginning. Give us confidence that you will help us to finish what we start. We are confident that you have provided everything we need to do your will in 2020.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
